The Catlands Experience
What is Catlands?
Catlands is a boutique cat lounge located in the heart of Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We’ve created a cozy, beautifully designed space where rescue cats roam freely, guests can relax and connect with them, and meaningful adoption connections can happen.
Our mission is simple: help rescue cats find loving homes while creating a memorable experience for the humans who visit.
Is Catlands a cat café?
We’re a little different from a traditional cat café! Catlands is a dedicated cat lounge where the cats are the main attraction. Think of it as a cozy boutique hotel experience, with some very adorable, four-legged residents.
Where do the cats come from?
Our resident cats come from rescue organizations, including our rescue partner, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. Each cat is looking for a loving forever home.
Are the cats free to roam?
Yes! Catlands is a cage-free environment where cats can explore, play, climb, nap, and interact with guests at their own pace. We believe happy, comfortable cats make for the best experience for everyone.
Visiting Catlands
Do I need a reservation?
We strongly recommend booking your visit in advance. Catlands offers timed admission with limited availability to ensure a comfortable experience for both our guests and our resident cats.
How long is each visit?
Each admission includes approximately 50 minutes in our cat lounge, plenty of time to meet our residents, enjoy some cuddles, and make a new feline friend.
How much does admission cost?
Weekday admission: $25 per person
Weekend admission: $30 per person
Admission helps support the care of our resident cats and the Catlands experience.
Can I walk in without a reservation?
Walk-ins may be accommodated when space is available, but advance reservations are recommended to guarantee your preferred time. Sessions start on the hour every hour.
Is there an age requirement?
Catlands welcomes cat lovers of all ages! We are a family-friendly space and want guests of every generation to enjoy the experience.
We ask that parents and guardians closely supervise their children at all times and ensure they interact gently and respectfully with our resident cats. The comfort, safety, and well-being of our cats will always be our top priority.
While we currently have no minimum age requirement, we reserve the right to introduce age restrictions in the future if necessary to maintain a safe and positive environment for our cats and guests.
Can I bring my own cat?
As much as we love meeting new feline friends, outside pets are not permitted. This helps maintain a safe, healthy, and stress-free environment for our resident rescue cats.
Will I be able to hold and pet the cats?
Our cats love attention, but every cat has its own personality! Some may curl up beside you, while others prefer to play or simply observe.
Guests are welcome to pet and interact with cats who approach them, but we ask that you never force an interaction, pick up a cat without staff permission, or disturb a sleeping cat.
The cats are always in charge!
Adoption
Are the cats available for adoption?
Yes! Helping rescue cats find loving forever homes is at the heart of everything we do.
Catlands gives potential adopters an opportunity to meet cats in a relaxed, home-like environment where their personalities can truly shine.
What if I fall in love with one of the cats?
We love a good love story!
If you meet a cat you’d like to adopt, our team will help connect you with our rescue partner, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, to learn more about the adoption process.
Can I adopt a cat the same day?
All adoptions are handled through our rescue partner, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, and are subject to their application, screening, and approval process.
Do I have to be interested in adopting to visit?
Not at all! Whether you’re actively looking to adopt, love spending time with cats, or simply want a fun and relaxing outing, everyone is welcome.
Every visit helps support our mission and gives our adoptable cats valuable social interaction.
Events & Private Gatherings
Does Catlands host special events?
Yes! We plan to offer a variety of cat-themed experiences, including yoga with cats, trivia nights, bingo, and other special events.
Keep an eye on our Events page and social media for upcoming experiences.
Can I book Catlands for a private event?
We’d love to celebrate with you! Catlands plans to offer private bookings for birthdays, celebrations, and other small gatherings.
Please contact us to inquire about private event availability and pricing.
Before Your Visit
What should I wear?
Come comfortable! We recommend clothing that allows you to sit, play, and relax around cats. Keep in mind that curious paws and a little cat hair are part of the experience.
What if I have cat allergies?
Catlands is home to multiple free-roaming cats, so guests with cat allergies should consider their individual sensitivities before booking.
Are food and drinks allowed?
To keep our resident cats safe and healthy, outside food and beverages are not permitted in the cat lounge unless specifically approved by our team.
Are there rules guests need to follow?
Yes! The well-being of our cats always comes first. We ask all guests to follow a few simple guidelines:
- Be gentle and respectful with the cats.
- Never chase, grab, or force an interaction.
- Allow sleeping or resting cats to relax undisturbed.
- Keep noise levels comfortable.
- Follow all instructions from our Catlands team.
Guests will be asked to review and acknowledge our visitor guidelines before entering.
Do you ship merch?
No. Catlands merch is sold in store only. We don’t ship. You can buy it at the lounge, or add it when you book a session and pick it up at the counter when you arrive.
