Your First Visit to CatLands: What to Expect at a Cat Lounge

Never been to a cat lounge? Here is how a visit to CatLands will work when we open in December, from booking your session to the moment a cat decides you are its favorite person.

A cat lounge visit is one of the easiest ways to slow down for an hour. It is also a little different from anything else you have booked, so here is a simple guide to what your first visit at CatLands Lounge in Kentlands will look like once we open.

1. Book your session

Visits are timed so the room stays calm for the cats and comfortable for guests. Each session lasts about 50 minutes and starts on the hour. Weekday visits (Wednesday to Friday) are $25 per person and tend to be quieter, with more one-on-one time. Weekend visits are $30 per person and a bit livelier.

Walk-ins will be welcome when there is space, but booking ahead will guarantee your time. Session booking opens with the lounge; for now you can reserve a free Grand Opening spot.

2. Dress for cat hair

Wear clothes you can sit on the floor in, and expect a little fur. Curious paws are part of the fun. Leave the dangly jewelry at home if you would rather not have it batted around.

3. Arrive a few minutes early

You will check in, review our short visitor guidelines and head into the lounge. To keep the cats safe, outside food and drinks are not allowed in the cat area, and outside pets cannot come in.

4. Let the cats come to you

This is the most important tip. Our residents are rescue cats with their own personalities. Some will curl up beside you within minutes. Others prefer to watch from the top of the cat tree first.

A few simple rules keep everyone happy:

The fastest way to make a friend is to sit low, stay still and let a wand toy do the talking.

5. Bringing kids

CatLands is family-friendly and guests of all ages are welcome. We ask parents and guardians to stay close to their children and help them interact gently. Calm, seated kids almost always get the most cat attention.

6. A note on allergies

The lounge is home to several free-roaming cats. If you have cat allergies, think about your own sensitivity before booking.

7. What if you fall in love?

It happens a lot. Every resident at CatLands is available for adoption through Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. Tell a team member who caught your eye and we will help you start. We explain the whole process in How to Adopt a Cat in Montgomery County.
