Date Ideas in Kentlands and Gaithersburg That Aren't Just Dinner

Stuck in a dinner-and-a-movie rut? Here are easy, local date ideas in Kentlands and Gaithersburg, including one with a lot of purring once we open in December.

Gaithersburg and the Kentlands neighborhood are full of good date options if you know where to look. Here are a few we love, from low-key to a little more planned.

1. Spend an hour with the cats (from December)

Once CatLands Lounge opens on Main Street in early December 2026, a visit will be an easy first date or a great way to break up a routine. You will get 50 minutes in a calm room full of free-roaming rescue cats, which takes all the pressure off conversation. Weekday evenings (Wednesday to Friday, until 8pm) will be the quieter option, which is ideal for a date. Admission is $25 per person on weekdays and $30 on weekends.

If one of the cats picks you both, every resident is available for adoption.

2. Stroll Kentlands and Market Square

Kentlands was designed for walking. Pair a CatLands visit with a wander down Main Street and over to Kentlands Market Square for dinner. In summer, look out for community events like Kentlands Under the Lights.

3. Paddle boats at Rio Lakefront

A short drive away, Rio Lakefront has paddle boating on the lake, a carousel, a movie theater and plenty of restaurants. It is an easy way to turn dinner into a full evening.

4. Catch a show at the Arts Barn

The Arts Barn in Kentlands, a converted set of mansion stables, has art exhibits, resident artists and an intimate 99-seat theater. Small venue, big date energy.

5. Make something together

Downtown Crown has a pottery and mosaic studio, which makes for a hands-on date where you both go home with something to remember the night by. Bonus points if one of you paints a cat.

6. Go see a little history

The Gaithersburg Community Museum in Olde Towne is small and full of local stories. Check their hours before you go.

Planning a group outing instead?

CatLands also plans to host cat yoga, trivia and bingo nights and private bookings for small celebrations. See what is coming up on our events page.

CatLands Lounge is at 375 Main St, Gaithersburg, MD 20878. We are anticipating our grand opening in early December 2026, with planned hours of Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 8pm, Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm. Join the opening list.
